It seems February is moving along swiftly. Valentine’s Day has already come and gone, and many of the grand gestures and Instagrammable moments of the day dedicated to love are behind us. So what remains – and what can be carried forward?
Psychiatrist M. Scott Peck wrote in his classic self-help book The Road Less Traveled, “Love is as love does. Love is an act of will– namely, both an intention and an action. Will also implies choice, we do not have to love. We choose to love.” Understanding love as an action resonates with us. A moment by moment choice to show up with care, affection, recognition, respect, commitment, trust and honest, open communication.
And just like love, trusted relationships (the #1 predictor of resilience) are built and sustained by small, consistent actions. What is one, small, attainable change you can make today to nurture a relationship in your life? The opportunities are endless… Write an affirmation to a child on a sticky note. Make a commitment to putting your phone away when a loved one walks into the room. Give a smile and compliment to your colleague. Send a heartfelt note of appreciation to a friend you’re thinking of today. Choose to remind someone that they matter and your life is better because they’re in it.
With deep appreciation,
This month we are honoring and celebrating Worldmaker’s inaugural Trailblazer award winner Dylan Tête. The award is presented to a Worldmaker partner for their innovation and outstanding service to the human resilience field, resulting in new pathways for many. Through his work at Bastion Community of Resilience, Dylan is forging new routes for post traumatic growth among military veterans and their families, caretakers and neighbors in New Orleans, LA.

What's Up @ Worldmaker?
This is the year (fingers crossed) when we will be participating in several events originally scheduled for 2020 and postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One we are looking forward to is supporting the good work of the Invictus Games Foundation to use a community-based approach to sport and adventurous challenge to aid veterans in recovery, health and well-being. While Worldmaker faculty have provided virtual training over the past couple years, we are excited to present live this April at The Hague, The Netherlands. Check out the video below to see how the inspiring Invictus community has embraced the challenges presented by the pandemic and grown through them – together!
Worldmaker CEO Dr. Mollie Marti delivered a virtual presentation for the mental health providers of the Fairbanks Wellness Coalition in Fairbanks, Alaska. The theme for this year’s annual conference: Celebrating Our Strengths: Beyond Surviving into Thriving. A shout out to the passionate and caring professionals who participated – and to Worldmaker community member and author Eileen McDargh for introducing conference organizers to us.
Do you know an organization or community seeking trauma informed resilience education? We invite you to introduce them to Worldmaker. We THRIVE together!
